Our skin loses collagen and elastin over time. Age also diminishes our facial fat pads (yes, those juicy cheek pads that little babies hate having pinched) and alters bone structure. In order to address this redistribution, fillers can be used to bolster areas in need of volume. Common places are cheeks, nasal labial folds (smile lines) and marionette lines (the chin). The lips also lose volume over time, or if a sexier pout is simply desired, fillers can be used for this as well.
Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in our bodies. One of the properties of this substance is its ability to hold water in tissues. This substance can now be produced as a gel, and by cross-linking molecules in certain ways, lends each filler its characteristics such as softness and volume. Depending on the area treated, results can last from 6 months to 2 years.
After fillers have been injected, one often has some swelling and possibly some bruising, for up to 2 weeks. Emi-MD uses an anti-bruising protocol to help prevent bruising. This includes injecting with micro-cannulas when appropriate, and applications of Cearna Pads. These soft hydrogel pads have a patented delivery system of arnica and ledum which help to reduce swelling and bruising.
Emi-MD utilizes hyaluronic acid fillers from different companies for varying needs: Restalyne®, Boletero®, and Versa®.
